Concept

MISSION: Infinity Arts Foundation harnesses the complementary strengths of art and science to inspire creativity, foster collaboration, and drive positive change. Through residencies, public programs, and community engagement, we support artists and innovators in developing work that expands knowledge, deepens empathy, and enriches the cultural landscape

HISTORY
The Infinity Arts Foundation was founded by filmmaker Matthew Brown, and artist Melissa Herrington built on their shared belief that creativity thrives when individuals are given the freedom to work deeply and without distraction. Infinity Arts Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting artists, scientists, and interdisciplinary thinkers through residencies, exhibitions, and collaborative programming. At its core, the foundation champions the power of creative practice to inspire new perspectives, encourage risk-taking, and expand our collective understanding of the world.

The idea for Infinity Arts Foundation was born from the belief that the intersection of art and science can ignite ideas that change the world. Matthew experienced this firsthand while directing The Man Who Knew Infinity, the story of mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. What began as a cinematic exploration of one brilliant mind became a catalyst for global education and inspiration—reaching classrooms, festivals, and audiences worldwide. During production, IAF advisor and mathematician Dr. Ken Ono credited a key breakthrough on the umbral moonshine conjecture to insights gained outside his academic environment while on set. This extraordinary moment—where artistic collaboration led to scientific discovery—became the seed for Infinity Arts.
The Infinity Leadership
Infinity Arts Foundation is guided by leaders and advisors committed to the transformative power of creativity.

MELISSA HERRINGTON / ARTIST / FOUNDER
Melissa Herrington is a Los Angeles–based abstract artist, founder of MH Contemporary Gallery, and graduate of the MFA program at Otis College of Art and Design. At Infinity Arts, Melissa leads the foundation’s visual arts and residency initiatives. Her vision is rooted in the belief that creativity— when given time, space, and purpose; can lead to discovery and deepen human understanding. Inspired by her own experiences in artist residencies around the world, Melissa founded Infinity Arts Foundation Residency to expand that model into one that brings together art, film, and S.T.E.A.M., fostering dialogue, collaboration, and innovation across disciplines.

MATTHEW BROWN / FILM MAKER / FOUNDER
Matthew Brown is a visionary, award-winning filmmaker and writer-director whose work has, for over two decades, explored the intersection of art, science, and the human spirit. He is best known for The Man Who Knew Infinity, the acclaimed feature film starring Dev Patel and Jeremy Irons, and Freud’s Last Session with Anthony Hopkins. The Man Who Knew Infinity—which tells the story of mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan—earned international acclaim and continues to inspire audiences across classrooms, festivals, and scientific communities. Its success led to the founding of Infinity Arts Foundation, where Matthew now leads storytelling initiatives that champion projects illuminating creativity and discovery as deeply connected pursuits.

KEN ONO / MATHEMATICIAN / BOARD MEMBER
Dr. Ken Ono is an internationally renowned mathematician and the Marvin Rosenblum Professor of Mathematics. A Fellow of the American Mathematical Society and a Guggenheim Fellow, his pioneering research in number theory and the “moonshine” phenomena has earned global acclaim. As mathematics advisor for The Man Who Knew Infinity, his collaboration with filmmaker Matthew Brown helped inspire the founding of Infinity Arts Foundation, where he continues to champion the creative intersection of art and science.

MANJUL BHARGAVA / MATHEMATICIAN / BOARD MEMBER
Dr. Manjul Bhargava is a Fields Medal–winning mathematician and Professor of Mathematics at Princeton University. His pioneering research in number theory and algebra has transformed modern mathematics, earning him international acclaim and recognition as one of the leading thinkers of his generation. A passionate advocate for the public understanding of mathematics, Dr. Bhargava collaborates with Infinity Arts Foundation to help illuminate the beauty, creativity, and universal language of math through art and storytelling.
